Children's Ministry

Jesus said “Let the little children come to me” and so do we!  At First Baptist Ft. Thomas we LOVE kids and desire to mentor children as they grow as Jesus grew: in wisdom, in stature, and in favor with God and others.  Our passionate team of volunteers seek to provide a safe, nurturing, and educational environment where children can learn, play, sing, create, and explore as they grow into deeply committed followers of Jesus.

Sunday School (9:30-10:30)

OUR CHILDREN’S SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS WILL RESUME ON SUNDAY, JUNE 5.

During our Sunday School hour our trained volunteers lead kids as they learn Bible stories, memorize Bible verses, learn how to use their Bibles, and discover ways to apply Jesus’ teaching to their daily lives.  With engaging songs, crafts, and games, kids are actively involved in their learning in a loving environment all while developing friendships and community.  Our dedicated Sunday School volunteers remain the same each week to provide consistency for your child as they form these important relationships.  Following Sunday School, kids will be escorted down to the sanctuary where they will participate in the first portion of the worship service with their families.

FBC Kids (During Worship Hour)

We believe in inter-generational worship at FBC Ft. Thomas and the importance of worshiping as a family.  For this reason, kids participate in worship with their families until the Children’s Moment portion of our service where they can sing songs, engage in prayer, and learn about the rich traditions in our worship.  Kids are encouraged to come forward during our Children’s Moment lesson from which they are led upstairs to our children’s area for FBC Kids.

FBC Kids is the heart of our children’s ministry, where what our children have been learning in the Sunday School hour and Children’s Moment comes together. Infants through fifth grade gather in large group for children’s worship and an upbeat, interactive lesson led by our children’s minister, Kaitlyn Runion, and then split into age-group based small groups for activities and relationship building with their leaders and each other. Following worship, parents can pick up their kids (and return the pagers received at check-in) in the children’s area on the second floor.

Infants-2 year olds

Our focus for infants through 2 year olds is to teach them how much Jesus loves them. We seek to help them develop trusting relationships with their leaders and teachers as they are cared for in our infant area.  Our caring volunteers nurture our smallest treasures ensuring they feel right at home in God’s house.. Even our smallest kiddos are involved in FBC Kids. They join our older children for large group worship and are welcome to dance, crawl, play, or be held as they please. After large group they have their very own lesson with songs, rhymes, and play-things that teach them about God’s love for them.

In 2016 we dedicated our children’s area which now features a Parent’s Room, designed to provide parents a private and comfortable space for nursing/feeding our youngest kiddos equipped with a rocking chair and changing table. Parents are welcome to utilize this room throughout the Sunday School and worship hours as needed.

Visiting With Us?

We understand how overwhelming and sometimes nerve-wracking it can be to visit a new church with a child. Our desire is for you and your child(ren) to feel at home from the moment you walk through our doors.

Finding Our Children’s Area
Our church parking lot is located at the back portion of the building.  This back entrance is the most frequently used entrance/exit to our building.  Once inside the back doors, our children’s area is located at the top of the stairs which will be located to the right. A greeter or volunteer will be happy to escort you and introduce you to our children’s teachers.

Checking In Your Child
Once you arrive upstairs in our children’s area, a volunteer will provide you with an information card.  This will provide our volunteers with invaluable information as we seek to care for your child to the highest possible standards.  You can leave special information and instructions for our volunteers about your child, such as allergies, feeding instructions, or special needs.  You will also be issued a pager upon check in.  This is a discrete way for our volunteers to contact you during Sunday School or Worship should your child require your attention.  If you are interested in taking a short tour and looking around our children’s area, feel free to ask any questions.  We don’t take the responsibility of caring for your child lightly, and our volunteers want to ensure you are comfortable as you drop off your child.

Children in Worship
Children 2 and up participate in the beginning portion of worship alongside their families and are then dismissed following our Children’s Moment.  We understand that for parents (especially of small children) having your child in worship can feel stressful.  May we suggest:

  • Relax! God put the wiggle in children. Our congregation LOVES children and recognize that our growing congregation is alive and active! We celebrate their presence and encourage their contributions.

  • Sit toward the front where it is easier for your child to see. Seeing the back of people’s heads is boring.

  • Quietly explain the parts of the service as they happen. Children are more engaged when they understand what is going on.

  • Sing the songs, pray, and participate! Children learn by copying you.

  • If you need to step out of the service, feel free. But please, come back! We want children to be at home in this house of worship (squeals, wiggles, and all!).
